Giorgio Strehler ou la passion théâtrale/Or a passion for theatre

The events of the Europe Theatre Prize XII Edition include the presentation of the bilingual book “Giorgio Strehler ou la passion théâtrale/Or a passion for theatre”, dedicated to this Master of contemporary European theatre. Edited by Renzo Tian in collaboration with Alessandro Martinez and published on the tenth anniversary of Strehler’s death, the book gathers together the proceedings of the conference on the Trieste director’s work held during the Europe Theatre Prize III Edition in May 1990. The book offers a broad range of personal testimonies and presentations by those who shared experiences with Strehler over the years, as well as essays by theatre specialists and critics. Furthermore, the edition has been updated since the Italian edition published by Ubulibri and supplemented with previously unpublished testimony by artists and personalities mentioned by Strehler who were unable to attend the Third Europe Theatre Prize. That year’s events, however, are also memorable for the recognition for Russian director Anatoli Vassiliev and the resulting official establishment of the Europe Theatre Prize for New Realities. Thus a section of this book is dedicated to the conference-debate held by Vassiliev at the prize-giving ceremony.
